"A haiku is the expression of temporary enlightenment, in which we see into the life of things."
R.H. Blyth
Inquiry
We carry around notions that life should be different. Inquiry examines those beliefs. Are our thoughts about how things should be really true? Who would we be without those thoughts? In our community we practice with inquiry to know what is true in this very moment.
The Arts
A cuckoo cried! A moon filters through the vast mango grove. Bassho (1644 - 1694)
To sit without emotion, hope or aim, In the loved presence of my cottage-fire, And listen to the flapping of the flame Or kettle whispering its faint undersong. Personal Talk by William Wordsworth (1770 - 1850)
These examples of awakening as seen in the arts were pointed out in Zen in English Literature and Oriental Classics by R. H. Blyth (1898 -1964)
